Stanford’s vision is for a flexible work environment that delivers on Stanford’s mission, culture and operational requirements. Work flexibility is important for the long-term recovery of the university as it offers a workplace that is inclusive, creative, contemporary and fosters employee well-being.

As the COVID-19 pandemic subsides, we have an opportunity to create the future of work at Stanford by implementing flexible work options while maintaining the on-campus experience that is so valuable.

We also acknowledge that the road to flexible work at Stanford is complex and will require experimentation and continued iteration.

This Flexible Work pages were designed to keep you informed and updated as we prepare to return to on-site work with more flexibility options over the summer and fall.

The microsite will be regularly updated, especially as we gain new insights from schools and business units who are undertaking pilot experiences over the summer. Here’s what you’ll find:

  • Flexible Work strategy, vision and guiding principles
  • Flexible Work project timeline and committee information
  • News and updates including recent leadership communications and the May 26 recording of the Campus Conversation
  • Tools such as a Flexible Work Glossary of Terms
  • Information about summer pilots and school/business unit contact details

Stay tuned for more information, including policy updates and other Flexible Work resources as they become available.
